With its rolling parkland, landscaped gardens to rival Kew, and eco-friendly maintenance techniques, The University of Nottingham’s main campus is the greenest in the country, thanks to a new Green Flag award announced Monday.
The Green Flag is the seventh annual award in a row for University Park, the highest number ever awarded to a UK university over successive years. Green Flags are widely acknowledged as the benchmarks of excellence for parks and recreational spaces. They are only awarded when several standards are judged to be met including high quality horticulture, working local community partnerships, environmental quality, cleanliness, accessibility and sustainability.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor David Greenaway, said: "The University is committed to improving levels of environmental sustainability on all our campuses in the UK, in our new or older buildings and our landscapes. As a world-leading research centre in energy and sustainability, it is important that we can demonstrate our commitment to the reduction of our own environmental impact. This latest Green Flag Award reflects the success of that work.”
