The Beijing bottling plants of Coca-Cola and PepsiCo are among the top 12 units which cause major water pollution in China's capital, according to Beijing Development and Reform Commission.
The 27 polluter companies named by the Commission will have to submit plans to reduce energy use and pollution emissions and will be subjected to strict supervision. The Commission also published the top 15 energy users in the capital.
"2009 is a key year for fulfilling our energy-saving and pollution-reduction goals," said the Commission.
It should be noted here that while US cola giants pollute foreign countries, in its home country, they were garlanded for protecting environment.
In March this year, the US Environmental Protection Agency awarded PepsiCo a 2009 Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award for protecting environment through energy efficiency.
