The UAE’s largest solar hot water project

Millennium Energy Industries (MEI), a leading solar solutions company operating in the MENA region, has signed an agreement with the Modern Residential City, Abu Dhabi, for the design, supply, and installation of advanced central solar hot water solutions in 48 buildings. The central solar hot water systems are to fully supply 1.3 million litres/day of domestic hot water for the expected 25,000 city residents. This solar project is the largest of its kind in the UAE and complements Abu Dhabi’s existing environmental initiatives such as Masdar.

The advanced solar solution will generate savings of more than USD3 million in capital costs. Furthermore, the new solar solution, which includes an electrical backup system, will enable over 90 per cent savings in the running cost during the winter months.

“With the right regional engineering expertise, advanced solar heating technology is currently commercially viable due to its efficiency and reliability,” said Ennis Rimawi, Chairman of MEI.

The Modern Residential City will house 25,000 residents, including workers, technicians, and supervisors and will be located in Al-Musafah area. The project will commence in 2009.

“Having successfully completed other major projects, including Rotana International Hotels, Movenpick Hotels and the Jordache Jeans Factories, MEI is well placed to carry out the UAE’s largest solar hot water project for Modern Residential City.”

Based in Amman, Jordan, MEI provides a wide range of solar solutions, including solar power, steam and cooling solutions to projects across the MENA region.
