A fire map compiled from MODIS data. These maps are created every 10 days, each showing the locations of all the fires detected by the MODIS on board the Terra and Aqua satellites during this time period. Each colored dot indicates a location where MODIS detected at least one fire. Color ranges from red where the fire count is low to yellow where number of fires is large.
This particular map shows the time period between January 11 and January 20, 2009.
The fire maps were created by Jacques Descloitres for the MODIS Rapid Response System, the fire algorithm was created by Louis Giglio. The background Blue Marble image was created by Reto Stokli.
