One of the poorest countries in the world, Haiti, has been hit by a 7.0-magnitude Earthquake. Initial reports talk about big number of dead and injured in the streets of Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince. The highly impoverished country is not in a position to provide basic emergency services to help the injured. The quake struck at 4:53pm on Tuesday, and as night fell people were out in the streets - screaming and crying for help.The United Nations, which runs peace-keeping operations in Haiti said in a statement that "a large number of personnel remain unaccounted for." The Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping said that contacts with the UN on the ground have been severely hampered as communications networks in Haiti have been disabled by the quake.
