BirdLife embraces online advertising to fund conservation

Andaman Woodpecker Photo: Suhas AnandConservation organisation BirdLife has taken the step to display adverts on its flagship website for the first time to help fund its urgent global conservation action.

Dr Marco Lambertini – BirdLife’s Chief Executive, said: “It’s just like placing adverts in a magazine or newspaper, but is greener and cheaper to administer”.

The adverts are displayed on every webpage, and are carefully vetted to be from ethically sound companies, with a well designed format which doesn’t detract from the website’s content.

“In consultation with BirdLife Council this is part of a strategy to diversify income”, added Dr Lambertini. “In this time of great financial uncertainty, all charities are looking for new ways to ensure that their work continues to get done. The world’s economy might be faltering, but conservation threats continue to grow!”

By visiting BirdLife's website, public will see adverts which in turn helps to support its work to:

*Prevent the extinction of any bird species

*Maintain and where possible improve the conservation status of all bird species

*Conserve and where appropriate improve and enlarge sites and habitats important for birds

*Help, through birds, to conserve biodiversity and to improve the quality of people's lives

*Integrate bird conservation into sustaining people's livelihoods.
